My latest story, "Paper Hearts," is now live over at Daily Science Fiction. I wrote it earlier this year, and if it seems dark, (even for me), it sort of reflects the mindset I've been struggling with ever since the election. I mean, if you take a Gen-X kid who grew up in a world on the verge of nuclear holocaust, and then plunge them right back into a twisted, through-the-looking-glass version of that same reality, and things are bound to get tinged with ash.
But isn't that what art is for? Pulling us out of those dark places? Making us believe that, even if things get just as bad as they can possibly be, our minds and hearts find a way to get through it. Even if it's just for a moment.
